New limited edition prints added to the underwater photography gallery

April 15th, 2012 — 6:47pm

Having been concentrating on my Landscape Photography Workshops over the past 12 months, my underwater photography has unfortuantely had to take a back seat but it has given me an opportunity to get some much needed editing done and upload some new images to the galleries.

A quick preview of 3 of my favourite images I’ve just added:

My favourite abstract, I love the light on the surface of the water with the needle fish setting it off nicely. You can find the limited edition image in THIS gallery

October 21st, 2011 — 1:06pm

I have been lucky enough to have some great opportunities to take stunning landscape images across Dorset, Hampshire and the South on England whilst researching for my Landscape Photography Workshops and wanted to put together a calendar for 2012 to share some of those locations with you!

The calendar is printed on high quality lustre paper giving a lovely glare-free finish on the photos and each month has an A4 sized calendar where you can diarise your commitments for the year. Priced at only £9.99 they are available to purchase online through Paypal or by telephoning Helen on 01794 516821 to purchase by credit card. I will also be selling the Calendars at our first prestigious craft fair at BROADLANDS in Romsey on the 29th and 30th October 2011 along with limited edition prints – perfect timing for Christmas presents!

One to One Landscape Photography courses in Hampshire & Dorset

October 7th, 2011 — 3:25pm

On Thursday 6th October Penny came down to join me in Dorset for a one to one landscape photography workshop – Penny has been shooting for many years and was keen to improve her understanding of using filters to balance exposure and learn how to get “WOW!” shots when she goes out on location.

We met at Hengistbury Head, one of my favourite locations in the area as it’s diversity really means there is a location for every single season and weather condition and, as we were to find out, we used many of them all in one day due to the amazingly varying conditions throughout the day! Penny quickly mastered the use of filters and the understanding of how to create emotion and mood in her photos using a couple of the locations I love so we headed off further up the coast for our sunset shoot.

I’ve recently added another location to my portfolio and Penny was keen to check it out despite the need to battle the wind and a long walk and we were rewarded by some great light and as a result some great images, here are a couple of Penny’s favourite shots from the day

Great feedback on Landscape Photography workshops in Hampshire

July 11th, 2011 — 11:04am

If you are looking for a landscape photography workshop where you can improve your compositional skills, understand how to use manual settings and bring real drama and interest to your photographs then look no further. See Life Through The Lens offer Landscape Photography courses that do exactly that, but don’t just take my work for it, here are a couple of comments and photos from 2 chaps who recently came on a Landscape Photography workshop with me in Hampshire and Dorset.

Landscape Photography Workshops Hampshire Mike’s great photo capturing the mood of the sea with lovely light reflecting in the spray. Mikes comments after the course were:

“I booked Helen’s Ancient Headlands weekend course as I wanted to improve my photographic skills and understand how to use filters / time exposure, but mostly to become confident in using my camera in manual mode. Helen soon put me at ease with her ability to understand what I was trying to achieve and with her sense of humour and great skill made the whole learning experience fun. Helen even lent me some of her filters and a heavy duty tripod (it was very windy).

I can thoroughly recommend Helen’s workshops. Thank you Helen I achieved much more over the two days than I thought possible.”

You can see (and purchase) more of Mike’s image in our Client Images Gallery

On the same workshop as Mike was his good friend Gavin, Gavin chose to send me a couple of really moody black and white images he took over the weekend, this is my favourite one taken on a misty morning down in Bournemouth.

Gavin emailed me to say “I just wanted to send you a big thank you for the photography workshop this weekend. Not only did I have a great time (sleep deprivation serves to make the days last longer; which is great at my age) but I learned loads. It is absolutely true to say that after just a couple of days I see things in a very different way and see opportunities for great photography where previously I would have ignored. It’s re-enighted my appetite to take great pictures. You’re a great coach and I look forward to teaming up with you again, hopefully in a workshop later in the year.” Again you can see more of Gavin’s images in our Client gallery

Weekend Landscape Photography Course on the Dorset Coast

June 2nd, 2011 — 9:22am

Alan and Nigel joined me for a weekend’s landscape photography down in Portland, Dorset where we visited Portland Bill, Pulpit Rocks and Chesil Beach to learn more about creating stunning landscape images in camera. It was Nigel’s first time shooting in manual and using filters and he picked up the principles within 2 shoots, nice one Nigel! Alan had previously been on an Isle of Purbeck Landscape Photography Workshop with me and wanted to use his skills on photographing the stunning Portland Coastline, quickly putting his knowledge into practise Alan got some great moody images from the workshop!

See Life through The Lens’ photography workshops are based around getting the image right in camera with minimal post processing on the computer, since the weather turned dire on the Bank Holiday Monday (normal for the UK!) after a great misty morning shoot in Weymouth we critiqued some images taken over the weekend and the covered the developing techniques I use when processing images.

We had a thoroughly great time, from getting soaked by the sea spray down at pulpit rocks to brilliant blue sunshine photographing the inner landscape at Nothe Fort! Thanks chaps for a great couple of days and hope to see you both again soon.
